At the end of a tree-lined street on the more sedate Roscommon side of Athlone is the boutique, family owned Shamrock Lodge Hotel. It has 40 rooms and 11 large, two bedroom suites surrounded by beautifully manicured lawns and gardens.

The Shamrock has 40 bedrooms; doubles and twins, and family rooms to sleep up to four. All of them are spacious, clean and comfortable and come with luxury hotel extras such as smart TVs with Netflix, underfloor heating in the en-suite bathrooms and black out curtains.

The very spacious suites are set in an adjacent building and display the same luxury features along with two en-suite bedrooms, a lounge area and a basic kitchenette with a microwave, fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. The bedrooms can be either double or twin depending on your preference and there is also a sofa bed in the lounge to sleep one more person if needed, bringing the maximum occupancy to five. The Ath Luain restaurant serves good hearty food, as well as lighter bites, in a relaxed atmosphere, as does the Iona Bar which is also a warm and welcoming bar that is popular with locals and has live music on Saturday nights. The service is excellent at both venues and dietary restrictions, preferences etc. will be well looked after.

There is a private day spa, the Mingala Day Spa, on the grounds of the Hotel where guests can arrange all sorts of health, beauty and relaxation treatments, from massages, facials and holistic full body treatments to pedicures, manicures and waxes.

The Shamrock can also cater for conferences and business events for up to 280 delegates in 3 conference suites, and there is free on-site parking for all guests.

THE LOCATION:

Shamrock Lodge Hotel is on the Roscommon side of the town, on the left bank of the River Shannon, but no more than 15 minutes walk across the bridge to the main commercial centre.
