Right in the heart of the town centre the Prince of Wales is a 4 Star boutique luxury hotel and very much a local institution, one which, though it may not have as much wow factor, still comfortably competes with the two newer additions to Athlone’s luxury hotel market; the Sheraton and the Radisson Blu.
Despite its slick and modern interiors where it might beat the other two though is in the fact that it is a well established local, family run business, one that is very much of the town.
For many Irish guests a stay at The Prince of Wales is a long standing tradition and not much has happened in the meantime to change their view.

THE ACCOMMODATION:
The Prince of Wales is smaller and more intimate that the other two main 4 Stars in town, with just 46 guest rooms to choose from. These are a mixture of economy doubles, twins and triples and executive double rooms.
The rooms, though not incredibly spacious, are plush and inviting, with luxury finishings and all modern conveniences. Check out your options on the booking page here.
The Prince of Wales has two dining options; The Corvus Restaurant and The Prince Bar.
The Corvus does some excellent hearty traditional food but with contemporary touches and twists in a semi formal dining hall.
The Prince, while also offering carvery lunches and a full evening bar menu, is an atmospheric pub spread out over two floors, with three bars and a broad selection of beers, wines and cocktails to choose from.
The Prince has long been a popular destination for locals, and gets lively and fun, especially at weekends, with live music to be enjoyed on Fridays and Saturdays.
Complimentary on-site parking is available for guests at the rear of the hotel.
THE LOCATION:
The Prince of Wales Hotel is in the heart of the town, near the River Shannon and a few minutes walk from the bus and train stations. It is the busiest section of town with lots of bars, restaurants and shops around including Athlone Shopping Centre.
There is a concierge service at the hotel which can advise on what to see and do in the town as well as arranging excursions and tours of local points of interest including the ancient monastic site of Clonmacnoise and boat trips on the River Shannon and Lough Ree for example.
